Fred Taylor
August 24, 1931 – November 26, 2017
Fred “Red” Taylor, 86, of Bailey passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017. His funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Interment will follow in Bailey Town Cemetery, Bailey. The Rev. Walter Blackman will officiate.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of his son, Danny.
“Red” was born on August 24, 1931 in Nash County. He was a hardworking husband, dedicated family man, and accomplished musician. His musical career began during the 1940’s with the Carolina Rambler’s radio program on WVOT in Wilson and ended performing with his dear friends who comprised the group known as “The Country Echoes”. Fred was forced to leave school during the second grade due to a significant loss of vision, however, he enrolled in adult basic education classes in his 50’s and became a keynote speaker for the North Carolina Community College’s Adult Basic Education Program across the state. Fred is remembered as a loving and devoted father, grandfather, and uncle.
“Red” is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Lila Alford Taylor; his sons, Alton Taylor of the home, and Danny Taylor and wife, Wendy of Sims; his grandsons, Benjamin and Seth Taylor; his nieces, Janice Ford, Joyce Raper, Susan Bullock, and his nephew, Jimmy Taylor.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alsey Wade and Mary Lamm Taylor; grandsons, Adam and Bryan Taylor, and his brother, Calvin Taylor.
