Geneverette “Granny” Barnes Garner, 87, of Elm City passed away Monday. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. David Barnes will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Granny is survived by her husband, Charlie “Shorty” Franklin Garner of the home; her daughter, Cathy G. Williams of Wilson; her granddaughters, Beth Jackson of Elm City, Maggi Swain and husband, Trevor of Wilson, Marla Matthews and husband, Brandon of Spring Hope and Ashley Garner of Red Oak; her great-grandsons, Jonathon Jackson, Jacob Jackson, Bryce Matthews and Chason Matthews; her brother, Theolphius Barnes and wife, Lillian and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her son, Frank Garner; her parents, John Dallas Barnes and Sudie Bass Barnes; her sisters, Josephine Pearson and Betty Bottoms and her brothers, Purvis Barnes, Curtis Barnes, Steve Barnes and Bradford Barnes.
