George Richard Creech
November 22, 1973 – October 18, 2015
George Richard “Richie” Creech, 41, of Sims passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday at Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Rock Ridge. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church, 6664 Rock Ridge School Road, Sims and other times at the home.
The family requests that you wear Pittsburg Steelers apparel, ECU apparel, a Run4Richie T-shirt, or green for Liver Cancer Research.
Richie graduated from Hunt High School in 1992 and attended Barton College from 1993 – 1996 where he was a member of the Alpha Sigma Phi fraternity. Richie graduated from East Carolina University in 1997 with a BS degree in communications. He won the 1997 Colonial Athletic Association individual golf championship with an aggregate score of 212 and paced the Pirates to a third place team finish. He was an avid ECU and Pittsburg Steelers fan.
Richie was a very active member of the Wilson Chamber of Commerce and was a former golf coach at Hunt High School. He was a faithful member of Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church. He joined his mother, the late Carol Ann Hinton Creech and his sister, Beth Hughey, in 2000 at the family owned Carol Creech Promotions, an advertising business.
Richie is survived by his loving wife, Sallie Woodall Creech; his daughter, Jacey Rae Creech; his son, Jake Creech all of the home; his father, George Henry Creech of Zebulon, and his sister, Elizabeth “Beth” Creech Hughey of Apex, a special niece, Sarah Woodall, special nephews, David Hughey, Samuel Woodall, Seth Woodall and Grant Woodall.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Carol Ann Hinton Creech.
