Geraldine Wells Mangum September 7, 1924 – March 8, 2018 Geraldine Wells Mangum, 93, of Wilson went to her heavenly home on Thursday, March 8, 2018 surrounded by her family. Her funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Marsh Swamp OFWB Church, Sims. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Dr. DeWayne Eakes will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1:00 - 2:45 p.m. Sunday afternoon prior to the service in the church fellowship hall at Marsh Swamp OFWB Church, 6664 Rock Ridge School Road, Sims and other times at the home of her son, Ray. Geraldine was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. In her early life, she was a faithful member of Calvary Original Free Will Baptist Church. She was a Sunday School teacher, choir member, and a member of Woman’s Auxiliary. It was while teaching her Sunday School class that she was first called “Miss” Geraldine, a term that stuck with her through all her years. She was affectionately called “Grandma” or “Mema” by her grandchildren and Mema or Granny by her great grandchildren. For the past forty years, she has been a faithful member of Marsh Swamp Original Free Will Baptist Church where she was a part of the Woman’s Auxiliary and the Men and Women Sunday school class. Geraldine is survived by her daughter, Darlene Evans and husband, Ricky of Selma; her sons, Rev. Ray Wells and wife, Julie of Rock Ridge, and Rusty Mangum and friend, Betty of Raleigh; six grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Garland R. Wells, and Ollen Mangum. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be made in Geraldine’s honor to Marsh Swamp OFWB Church, 6054 Rock Ridge School Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.
