Glenda Aycock Barnes, 87, of Black Creek, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 19, 2025. She was lovingly attended to by her family and her hospice team.
She was born February 22, 1938, in Black Creek, NC. She grew up in Black Creek and graduated from Lee Woodard High School. After graduating from high school, she married James Earl Barnes and moved to Vermont where they began their life as a military couple. After traveling with the military for 20 years, they returned to the Aycock family farm. She worked with her father at Growers Cooperative Warehouse and later worked for many years with the Wilson County Tax Office, from which she retired.
She enjoyed spending time with her family of 4 children, 8 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren. She loved all of her social activities, she loved her church family, and she loved her flowers.
She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years James Earl Barnes, and her parents Clifford Brantley and Sadie Irene Aycock.
She is survived by her children Debbie Wild (Joe) of Wilson, NC; Jimmy Barnes (Christie) of Ayden, NC; Kathy Wright (Colin) of Cary, NC; and Betty Greene of Wilson, NC; grandchildren Megan Phares (Josh) of Hertford, NC; Kyle Bass (Brittany) of Elm City, NC; Troy Barnes (Natalie) of Warrensburg, MO; Chelsea Evans (Nick) of Newport News, VA; Caroline Wright of Denver, CO; Bradley Wright of Cary, NC; Annie and Amy Greene of Wilson, NC; great-grandchildren Kimberlyn, Liliann, and Easton Phares of Hertford, NC; Alissa and Eli Bass of Elm City, NC; Avery, Caris, and Kinley Barnes of Warrensburg, MO; Ezra, Banks, and Claire Evans of Newport News, VA; brother Ronny Aycock (Susan) of Raleigh, NC; nephew Chris Aycock (Alicia) and niece Alison Aycock Moore (Allen). She is also survived by her sister-in-law Lena Bass of Lucama, NC.
A memorial service will be held at Daniels Chapel FWB Church on Saturday, March 22, at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held in the church parlor following the service.
