When he was eighteen, Grover was operating a golf shop and teaching lessons to golfers. The road ahead was pretty straight for the next seventy years. He continued to play, teach, and operate a golf shop until 1989. He will be remembered for his golf teaching, especially working with children and his elegant golf swing. He retired as golf pro at Wilson Country Club after forty-two years from 1947 – 1989. Members of the professional golf community think highly of Grover and his talent. Leaving his mark on eastern NC comes from inspiring and teaching golf to so many people at the Wilson County Club. In 1962 he was the winner of Carolinas PGA section. In April 2013 Grover was the 43rd inductee into the Carolinas PGA Hall of Fame. He taught hundreds of student’s golf. He taught them how to respect each other, to be safe and also the importance of focus and patience. Grover was a life member of the Professional Golfers Association of America and a member of the Wilson Elks Lodge. He was honored for working with junior golfers and his greatest honor and joy was Mulligans Fore Kids. He helped raise money for the sold-out auction and golfing event, Mulligans Fore Kids, an organization dedicated to assist special needs children. In 2002 he made a profession of faith and joined the First Baptist Church of Wilson. Grover was a man who had no enemies and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
