Ollen Harvey Page, 79 of Wilson passed away Tuesday. His funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday at First Baptist Church, 311 W Nash Street, Wilson. Interment will follow in the church Columbarium. The Rev. Steve Clayton and Rev. Mike Cogdill will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
Harvey was born in Wilson County on November 16, 1939 to Dolly Yelverton and Russell Page and was later raised by his dear sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Buck Mumford.
Harvey was a graduate of the last class of Charles L. Coon High School of 1958. Upon graduating he joined the U.S. Marines where he was a private guard for President Dwight Eisenhower.
In 1959, he married his high school sweetheart Harriett Moore. Their first two years of marriage was spent in Hawaii where their daughter, Eles was born. He served his country for four years with honor and pride and continued to dedicate his career with respect and to serve others as a Wilson Police Officer for thirty years and retiring as Captain. Harvey was a graduate from the FBI Academy. After retiring as Captain, he went on to serve as Director of Security and Safety with Wilson Memorial Hospital. After retiring from the hospital, he became the creator of the Gingerbread Houses with Cathy, his daughter, where his workmanship to perfection of pride continued as he did all his life.
His love of sports grew from childhood to retiring with softball at the age of sixty-nine and he continued to coach women’s softball and enjoyed every minute of winning games and tournaments. Harvey also loved to play golf, however he once said he believed he loved being with his friends and the beautiful nature he was surrounded by more.
Harvey is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Harriett; daughters, Eles Skinner ( Rodney) and Cathy Daniel (Randy); granddaughters, Charity-Ruth Nichols (Ken) and Catherine Lee Jenkins (Brittany); great-granddaughters, Paige Nichols, Anna-Eles Nichols and Georgia-Moon Jenkins; great-grandson, Nash Nichols and his brother, Pat Page and wife, Earline.
Harvey’s biggest achievement of all was his family and they were his greatest love. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
