Hazel Mobley Holloman
November 19, 1932 – September 7, 2016
Hazel Mobley Holloman, 83, of Wilson passed away Wednesday. She was born on November 19, 1932 in Bear Grass, of Martin County, to the late Leonard Mobley and Fonnie Mae Harrison. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Carroll Wade Mobley and William Russell Mobley and one sister, Virginia Mary Arp.
Hazel graduated from Bear Grass High School in 1950 and entered into the nursing profession and graduated from Practical Nursing School in Baltimore, Maryland in 1951. Hazel continued to live in Baltimore and worked at the Baltimore City Hospital until August of 1954. She moved to Wilson, where she enrolled into a three year nursing program at the Wilson School of Nursing. Hazel married the late Richard “Shadow” Linwood Holloman on June 9, 1957 and graduated from nursing in August of 1957. The two made the Evansdale Community their home where they had one son, Michael Linwood Holloman. Hazel worked as a private duty nurse for the late Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hackney during the 60’s and 70’s. She began working as a plant nurse for Firestone Tire Company in August of 1974 and retired in December of 1989, when she went back to private duty nursing.
She is survived by her son, Michael Linwood Holloman and wife, Dana Byerly Holloman and her granddaughter, Ragan Lynn Holloman all of Louisburg.
The funeral will be conducted at 12 p.m. Friday, September 9, 2016 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. A graveside service will be held Friday at 3 p.m. in Woodlawn Cemetery, Williamston. The Rev. Bobby Fletcher will officiate.
The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the service from 11 – 11:45 a.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Evansdale United Methodist Church, 4334 Evansdale Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27893, where Hazel was a member for more than fifty years.
