Imogene Davis Batts

Imogene Davis Batts, 92 of Wilson passed away Wednesday, July 31, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.  

Igene, as she was affectionately called by family, friends and even the firefighters of Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department, loved her church, her family, friends, cats, chows, a good book, and a cute outfit with plenty of bling. She was a lady who was always put together, looking like a million bucks. She was definitely the matriarch of the family and could make things happen with a sideway glance. 

Igene was an integral part of the development of Silver Lake Volunteer Fire Department along with her husband, Doug. She spent countless hours of volunteerism both in the fire department and her various churches and civic organizations. Igene will be greatly missed by all who loved her.

The family will receive friends Monday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, and other times at the home.

 Imogene is survived by her daughters, Sara Batts Robbins of Wilson, and Lou Batts Anders and husband, Shawn of Bailey; son, Phillip Douglas Batts and wife, Barbara of Wilson; grandchildren, Lisabeth Sumner and husband, Michael, Bennett Batts and wife, Jessica, Chip Robbins; great-grandchild, Sara-Grayson Sumner, and several step-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, A. Douglas Batts; parents, Bennett Albert Davis and Sarah Ellas Davis, and her sister, Suzanne Griffin.
