Isaac Jack Pakula

Isaac Jack Pakula, 67, of Wilson passed away Monday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The Rev. Carter Bearden will officiate. Isaac will be laid to rest in New York, with his parents and grandparents in Beth David Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Isaac was a loving husband, father, step-father, grandfather, step-grandfather that will be missed and thought of often by all that loved him. He was an all-around teacher, mentor, advisor, counselor and one of the best coaches of all times. Isaac was often called “leader of the Wolf Pack” or “Pied Piper” and one of the greatest leaders in the Deaf community nationwide. He has taught for 38 years at five different deaf schools that included West Virginia, California, Texas, New York, and here in Wilson at the Eastern North Carolina School for the Deaf, before he retired in 2008. When asked which school was his favorite, he replied that he loved them all. Isaac is survived by his wife of twenty years, Randi Jo Pakula of the home; his daughter, Karlene Pakula of Texas; his son, Jonathan Pakula and fiancée, Sharla Schaefer of Texas; his step-daughter, Dani Hegland of MN; his step-son, Dustin Hegland and wife, Megan of MN; his grandson, Jaycob Savoy; his step-grandchildren, Madison, Tristan and Breckan Hegland. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Dorothy Pakula. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Eastern NC School for the Deaf, PO Box 2768, Wilson, NC 27894.
