James Edward Fulghum December 8, 1925 – April 6, 2015 James “Jim” Edward Fulghum, 89, of Wilson passed away Monday. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of Donald and Abbie Fulghum. Jim was a graduate of Charles L. Coon High School and following graduation he joined the Navy where he served during World War II with honor and pride. He was commissioned as an Officer in June, 1946. After the Navy he worked with the Wilson Daily Times and ACC College before owning his own company, Communications Associates. After twenty-five years he closed his firm and served as President of the Eastern North Carolina Chamber of Commerce, which was successful in acquiring highway improvements before retiring in 1990. Jim was very active in the Wilson Community; he was on the Historic Restoration Fund, a member of the Wilson County Genealogical Society. Jim was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend that lived his life to the fullest and with love. He will be greatly missed and thought of often. Jim is survived by his sons, Douglas Fulghum of Wilson and Donald Fulghum and wife, Abbie of Wilson; his granddaughters, Arlette Fulghum Rhodes and husband, Jason of Elm City and Sarah Fulghum Young and husband, Brett of Wilson; his grandson, Alex Fulghum of Wilson and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Bruce Grice Fulghum and his sister, Ann Fulghum Pope.
