James E. Glasgow, Jr.

James E. Glasgow, Jr. August 19, 1955 – September 14, 2015 James E. Glasgow, Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on September 14, 2015 at the age of sixty. He is survived by his sister, Lillian “Dee Dee” Glasgow Rhodes; his brother, Richard Todd Glasgow; his brother-in-law, David Rhodes, and his nieces, Rebecca and Sarah Rhodes. Jamie was known for his deep love of people, his perseverance in suffering, and a fair dose of strong mindedness that helped him get through the happiest and hardest of days. Jamie was born August 19, 1955. He attended St. Therese Catholic School and graduated in eighth grade. He served as an Altar boy for many years at St. Therese Catholic Church where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was an active member in the Boy Scouts of America and one of his fondest memories was hiking 50 miles on the Appalachian Trail in N.C. with his Dad. He also enjoyed attending NASCAR racing with his dad and brother. He graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School. He worked for his father’s logging company. At the age of twenty-six, he was in a logging accident that left him paralyzed but did not leave him down. Jamie went onto be involved with wood crafting, wood carving, and furniture making. He took many classes at Wilson Community College, and he was an active member of the Wilson Council for the Arts Woodcarving Club. He had several workshops in his backyard where he made furniture for the people he loved. Jamie was also heavily involved with HEC, Handicap Encounter Christ, where he went on several retreats and maintained an active social life. He also helped his friend, Bob Thompson, as he worked on handicapped legislation in order to bring about human rights for the disabled. Despite his many challenges, Jamie will be remembered for perseverance and his can do spirit. His love for people was contagious as he was constantly meeting new people and introducing people to each other. He was a phenomenal uncle and loving brother constantly telling his nieces, brothers, and sister how proud he was of them. The Glasgow and Rhodes family are thankful for this model of compassion and endurance, and we rejoice in the knowledge that he is walking with His Savior and parents in heaven. The family would like to thank the team of Doctors at Duke University hospital for the care they provided Jamie for thirty-three years along with Life Care Hospital of Rocky Mount and Pruitt Healthcare of Durham for caring for Jamie the last seventeen months. The family also deeply appreciates the love and care of his Nurse Joyce Kivitt who organized and planned his care for many years along with Barbara Gregory of BITCO Insurance for her attentiveness to Jamie’s needs. A rosary will be read at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The family will receive friends immediately following the rosary. His funeral Mass will be conducted 10 a.m. Friday, September 18, 2015 at the Church of St. Therese, 700 Nash Street E., Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Gregory Lowchy will officiate.
