James Alfred High, 95, of Wilson passed away Thursday morning.
James was a lifelong member of New Hope Baptist Church. He was employed with Ralston Purina for thirty-six years. He was a WWII veteran and Korean Occupational Veteran. James was a loving husband and father and was dedicated to his family. He loved to spend time with family and friends and enjoyed fishing and traveling with his late wife, Frances H. High.
James is survived by his daughter, Rebecca “Becky” High of Wilson, his adopted daughter, Gale Strickland of Wilson, his nephew, Barney H. High III of Charlotte; his nieces, Suzanne McBrayer of Jamestown and Beth High of Nashville, Tennessee and Deborah Saulter of Black Creek and goddaughters, Jennifer Sawyer Moore (Mike) of Rock Hill, South Carolina and Lisa Sawyer Giarmono (Anthony) of Elizabeth City.
He was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-three years, Frances H. High, parents, Barney and Mollie High Sr., brother, Barney High, Jr. and sister, Jean Burnette.
The family extends a special “thank you” to Angela and Rhonda with Gentiva Hospice, Verona and Barbara for their loving care.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 11, 2024, in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.
The family will receive family and friends at the home.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to be directed to Gentiva Hospice, 2841 Daisy Lane N, Suite E, Wilson, North Carolina 27896.
