James Vonnie Hocutt

James Vonnie Hocutt December 1, 1929 – April 28, 2019 James Vonnie Hocutt, 89, of Sims passed away Sunday.  A graveside will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.  The Rev. Cliff Lewin will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 7 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Vonnie was in the US Army veteran of the Korean War.  He was owner of Hocutt Farms, were he enjoyed farming and harvesting crops his whole life.  Vonnie enjoyed his grandsons, especially Jay who he passed down his wisdom. Vonnie is survived by his son, James Michael Hocutt of Sims and special friend and caretaker, Tracy Greenwaldt and Seth George Newsome; grandsons, Michael Jay Hocutt of Sims and Joey Michael Hocutt of Wilson; great-grandson, Joshua Hocutt; close cousin, Robert Lee Hocutt and the family pets, “Pork Chop” and “June Bug”. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie James and Ida Renfrow Hocutt and his brother, Jessie Dewell Hocutt. The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at WilMed Nursing Center in Wilson and Verlia Hocutt for their compassionate care.
