James “Jimmy” DeWitt Norris March 11, 1957 – October 28, 2017 James “Jimmy” DeWitt Norris, 60, of Wilson, NC passed away with family by his side on Saturday, October 28, 2017. His funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Forest Hills Baptist Church, 1407 Forest Hills Road, Wilson, NC 27896. A graveside service will be 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in Pollocksville Cemetery. The Rev. Justin Deeter will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, NC 27896. Jimmy was born on Monday, March 11, 1957 in Philadelphia, PA to the late Jack, Sr. and Learlene (Lowry) Norris. Jimmy attended Onslow Academy in Jacksonville, NC and was a graduate of the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. He went on to work in the tire business for over 30 years in Virginia and North Carolina. At an early age, Jimmy professed his love for our Savior Jesus Christ and was a member of Forest Hills Baptist Church of Wilson, where he served as a Deacon and a Sunday school teacher. He participated in several mission trips to in the U.S. and South America, spreading the gospel and bringing people to Christ. If you knew Jimmy, then you knew his love for photography, the beach, and all sports— especially basketball, football, and golf. He was an avid University of North Carolina fan (Go Tar Heels!) and loved attending games with his family and friends. Jimmy was a mentor to many, friend to all, and an overall loyal and just man. Jimmy is survived by his beautiful wife of 37 years, Rebecca “Becky” Hughes Norris of the home; loving sons, James Andrew “Drew” Norris and wife, Sheena (Posey) Norris of Maryland, and Jameson Jack Norris of North Carolina; grandson, Grayson Charles Norris; brothers, Keith Norris of Kentucky and Sam Norris of Delaware; and countless other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Jack Kenneth Norris, Jr. The Norris family wishes to extend a special thank you to those family members and friends that supported him during his battle with cancer in the last two months. They would also like to acknowledge the health care providers at Duke University Hospital (especially those on the 9th floor), and the staff and volunteers at Transitions Hospice Care in Raleigh, NC.
