James Curtis Smith

James Curtis Smith, 76, of Wilson passed into our Heavenly Father’s care Sunday, November 30, 2014. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 – 9 p.m. with the Prayer service starting at 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday in Forest Lawn West Cemetery, 4601 Freedom Drive, Charlotte. James lived humbly and low key, he was generous and a very good host. He lived by the motto, “Live Life to the Fullest”. James was employed with the NASA Space program in Coco Beach, Florida and Huntsville, Alabama; with IBM in Lexington, Kentucky. He was retired from Engineering, Research and Development with Donnelley Marketing later Cox Direct in Elm City. James had a passion for travel, books, Polish history and culture, movies, Jeopardy, football, crossword puzzles and family genealogy. James is survived by his wife, Krystyna K. Smith of the home; beloved uncle to Daniel Wrobel, Melissa Wrobel, Karen Love, Robyn Benjamin, Kathy Barton, Becky Bailey and Mickey Smith; his sister, Barbara Dobbs and his sisters-in-law, Catherine Smith of Charlotte and Teresa and her husband, Tony Wrobel of Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Pauline Gibbs Smith and his brother, Harry Smith. The family would like to thank Hospice of Wilson, especially Kathy Glover.
