James Norwood Sutton

James Norwood “Stubby” Sutton, 78, of Wilson passed away Monday. His funeral will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church, 4747 Lake Wilson Road, Elm City. A graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park. Military honors will be accorded with the presentation of the American flag by his nephew, Warrant Officer II, Christopher Bennett. Rev. Shawn Garnett and Rev. Stacy Garnett, his nephews will assist Rev. Tim Hammond and Rev. Douglas Hammond will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening immediately following the service at Pentecostal Lighthouse Church and other times at the residence. James was a member of Pentecostal Lighthouse Church. He was a former employee of James I. Miller and Standard Commercial Tobacco Companies. He served his country honorably and faithfully with the U.S. Army. James is survived by his wife, Rose Evans Sutton of the home; his daughter, Cheryl S. Parker and husband, Thomas of Elm City; his son, Dean Sutton and wife, La Ronda of Watkinsville, Georgia; his granddaughters, Karen Batten, Kelly Dowen and husband, Aaron. and Kayla Sutton; his grandson, Jayce Sutton; his great-granddaughter, Julianne Batten; his great-grandson, Jaxon Batten and his sister, Martha Lee Johnson of Snow Hill.
