October 23, 1934 – September 13, 2013

 James Harmon “Sarge” Walton, 78, of Elm City passed away Friday.  Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.  The Rev. David Allen and Rev. Johnny Hendricks will officiate. The family will receive friends 12 – 1:45 p.m. Tuesday prior to the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home. “Sarge” was retired from the U.S. Army after 24 years of service and had a second career at Firestone.  He was a member of Pleasant Hope Missionary Baptist Church.  Sarge was a loving husband, step-father, step-grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him.  He will be greatly missed and thought of often with memories of love and joy that will always warm the heart of those that loved him. “Sarge” is survived by his wife, Dorothy Gour Walton of the home; his step-daughter, Deborah Inman and husband, Kyle of Roanoke, VA; his step-son, Ray Strickland and wife, Danielle of Wellington, FL; his grandson, Cole Inman; his granddaughter, Leighton Strickland; his sisters, Pauline Johnson of Franklin, VA and Frances King of Richmond, VA and his brother, Milton Walton of Emporia, VA.
