Jean Fritz Herring

Jean Fritz Herring November 19, 1924 – April 19, 2016 Jean Fritz Herring, 91, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Wednesday, April 19, 2016 at Wilson Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. Jean was born on November 19, 1924 in Lexington, Kentucky, the only child of Joseph and Elnora Fritz. When Jean was a young girl, she and her parents moved to Wilson and lived on Anderson Street. After graduation from Charles L. Coon High School in 1942, Jean entered Atlantic Christian College (ACC). She was crowned the very first Miss Wilson in 1944. On October, 7, 1945, Jean married the love of her life, Thomas Lindsey (T.L.) Herring, Jr. Jean loved being around people and had many friends. She was an avid golfer, tennis player, and bridge player. Atlantic Beach was always a favorite destination for T.L. and Jean. It was there that they enjoyed fishing and being with their family, good friend, Cera Brewer, and beach neighbors, Jerry and Eileen Houser. Jean also enjoyed working in the family business, T.L. Herring & Company, and continued to work there until she was age 88. Jean was also a breast cancer survivor. Jean is survived by her children; Mark Herring (Charmian), Marsha Irvin (Steve), and Michael Herring all of Wilson; her grandchildren, Mark Herring (Kris) of Chapel Hill, Lisa Johnson (Lee) of Apex, David Herring (Laramie) of Apex, Brent Irvin (Leigh) of Reidsville, Eleanor Irvin of Wilson, Craig Herring of Bailey, Lindsay Herring (Elizabeth) of Wilson, Brandon Herring (Amber) of Wilson, and fifteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Elnora Fritz and her husband, T.L. Herring. The family would like to thank Dr. Jonathon DeWald and staff, the Wake Med staff, Wilson Medical staff and the Wilson Rehabilitation and Nursing staff for all of their excellent care. Special thanks go to Martha Simon, Carolina Arizpe, Araceli Arizpe, Shirley Pittman, and Linda Davis. The family will receive friends Friday, April 22, 2016 from 6 – 7:30 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. A mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at the St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash Street, Wilson. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The Rev. Greg Lowchy will officiate.
