Jean Cuddington Winders Evans
January 2, 1931 – April 14, 2020
Jean Cuddington Winders Evans, 89, of Wilson passed away peacefully in her home on April 14, 2020 with her daughter and her sister by her side. A private family graveside service will be held in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Steve Singleton will officiate.
Public viewing for family and friends will be held Saturday, April 18, 2020 from 10 – 2 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Jean was born on January 2, 1931 in Kenly to Murray and Ida Cuddington. She grew up in Kenly and graduated from Glendale School. Jean married James “Donnie” Winders in 1952, and they shared their married life in Wilson. They worked at Burlington Industries. After Burlington Industries closed, Jean worked at Porritts and Spencer, where she retired.
Jean loved people, loved to travel, loved to joke and always had a funny one to tell. She was wonderful wife, loving mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and neighbor.
In 1985, her husband, Donnie, passed away, and she was a widow for ten years. In 1995, she married William “Carl” Evans. Carl passed away too soon in 2011. They had a wonderful life together.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Donna Jean Winders of the home; son, Philip Hugh Winders of Wilson; daughter-in-law, Lisa Winders of Enterprise, Alabama; grandsons, Spencer Winders and Kamden Winders; sister, Sheila Johnson and husband, Donald of Selma; many nieces and nephews; family friend and devoted caregiver, Yvonne “Von” Sexton, and her two fur babies, Grayson and Gracie.
She was preceded in death by her loving husbands, parents, sister, Marjorie Cuddington Gainus and her brother, Joe Cuddington.
The family extends heartfelt appreciation to Von for years of attentive daily care and diligence. Jean loved Von and expressed her gratitude often.
