Jerry became interested in clocks when he bought an antique mantel clock never knowing one day it would lead him into the time clock and parking business. Jerry was president of Southern Time Equipment Company Inc. for 44 years along with his faithful business partner, Norm Hogg, which expanded to South Carolina. Jerry never met a stranger. His wit and laughter would light up a room. He was a self-made business man known for being a fair, sharing employer of his successes. God blessed Jerry for being such a giving and loving person. His children and grandchildren were the joys of his life. He loved working with the young people in the Awanas program for many years. He loved his God and his church. Thanks to the wonderful staff at Wil Med Rehab and specially Bob, for the wonderful care and love given to him, and to the wonderful staff and doctors at UNC Chapel Hill.
Jerry is survived by the love of his life, Romona Massengill Herndon, married for 56 years, of the home; his daughter, Paula H. Bateman of Wilson; his sons, Greg Herndon of Raleigh, and David Herndon and wife, Sophia of Bailey; mother, Lou Herndon of Apex; his grandchildren, Colin and Garrett Bateman, and Reagan, Alexander, Samuel, and Liam Herndon; his special niece, Elizabeth Massengill; brothers, Charles Herndon and wife, Annette, Wayne Herndon and wife, Christa, and Stanley Herndon and wife, Debbie; and several nieces and nephews.
