Jesse Lester Barnes

Jesse Lester Barnes September 23, 1919 – November 2, 2017 Jesse Lester Barnes, 98, of Wilson passed away Thursday. His funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 202 N Kincaid Ave., Wilson with the family receiving friends prior to the service from 1 – 1:45 p.m. A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. Lester served his country with honor and pride with the U.S. Army. He served during WWII, in Belgium, Greenland and France. Lester was extremely proud of the combined 120 years of service between his brothers and himself. Lester also was with the National Guard for 15 years. Lester is survived by her sister, Dora Parks of Charlotte; granddaughter, Shelley Barnes of Raleigh; sister-in-law, Shirley Barnes of Elm City. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 52 years, Lendell Price Barnes; twelve brothers and sisters. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations in Jesse’s honor to Grace Baptist Church Building Fund, 202 N Kincaid Ave., Wilson, North Carolina 27893.
