Jesse C. Batts
October 1, 1937 – June 5, 2016
Jesse C. Batts, 78, of Elm City passed away Sunday. His funeral will be conducted at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. Graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. Major Jim Bavender and Rev. Billy Ray Lucas will officiate.
The family will receive friends Wednesday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.
Jesse graduated from Elm City High School and was a general contractor. He served as Corps Sargent Major for forty-seven years with the Salvation Army and a volunteer fireman for thirty-four years, where he served as Fire Chief for twenty-five years. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a friend to all that knew him. Jesse was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Shelby Ruffin Batts of the home; his sons, Allen Batts and wife, Linda and Keith Batts and wife, Robin both of Elm City, and David Batts and wife, Sharon of Lucama; his grandchildren, Christy Batts, Jenny Crocker, Tim Batts, Joshua Batts, Elaini Batts, and Emily Batts; great-grandchildren, Rylee Crocker, Westen Crocker, and McKinly Pipkin; his sister, Dorothy Batts, and a brother, Johnnie Batts.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John Farmer Batts and Pearl Canady Batts.
