Jesse Irvin Davis December 31, 1938 – May 2, 2016 Jesse “Irvin” Davis, 77, of Rock Ridge passed away Monday at the Durham VA Hospital after a day filled with visits from his family and friends. His funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Marsh Swamp Cemetery, 6664 Rock Ridge School Road, Sims. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday afternoon from 1:30 – 3 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at his residence. Irvin was born in Wilson County to Floyd and Addie Lamm Davis. He was a dedicated and loving husband for twenty-six years to his late wife, Doris Davis, a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a man of faith and a member of Marsh Swamp Original FWB Church. Irvin was a charter member of the Rock Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, initiated in 1961. He served for thirty-three years with the fire department including being an assistant fire chief. He lived his life to the fullest enjoying everything he could experience outside, especially hunting, fishing, and boating. The joy of his life was spending time with his family and attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and racing at Southern National Speedway. Irvin served his country with honor and pride with the US Army and was a rifle expert marksman. Irvin is survived by his son, Frankie Davis of Wilson; his granddaughters, Jenna and Shannon Davis of Wilson; his sisters, Lottie Boykin of Wilson and Vera Smith of Greenville, and many nieces and nephews whom he loved very much. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Davis; parents, Floyd and Addie Davis; his sister, Mildred Boswell, and his brothers, A.O. Davis, Ollie Davis, Carlton Davis, Floyd Davis, Leland Davis, and Albert Davis. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to in Irvin’s memory to the Marsh Swamp Church, 6504 Rock Ridge School Road, Wilson, North Carolina 27893.
