Jesse Floyd “Doodie” Davis, Jr., 83, of the Rock Ridge Community passed away Wednesday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Marsh Swamp Original FWB Church. Entombment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Ray Wells and Rev. Phillip Boykin will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home. Doodie was a loving husband, father, and family man. He worked as an electrician, trucker and security guard, but always returned to his true roots of farming. Doodie is survived by his wife of 61 years, Doris Flowers Davis of the home; his daughters, Gail D. Bennett of Elm City and Kim D. Sparks and husband, Craig of Whispering Pines; his sons, Tim Davis and wife, Terry of Wilson and Ray Davis and wife, Sharron of Wilson; his granddaughters, Courtney Davis and Nicole D. Cox and husband, Matthew; his grandsons, Will Batts and wife, Felicia, Tim Sparks, Tyler Sparks, Spencer Davis and Russell Davis; his great-grandchildren, Travis Cox, MacKenzie Cox and Emma Grace Batts; his sisters, Lottie D. Boykin of Wilson and Vera D. Smith of Winterville; his brother, Irvin Davis of Wilson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Floyd Davis and Addie Lamm Davis; his granddaughter, Amanda R. Batts; his grandson, Ray Davis, Jr.; his sister, Mildred Boswell and his brothers, A.O., Ollie, Carlton, Leland and Albert.
