Jimmie Ray Blalock

Jimmie Ray Blalock, 67, of Lucama passed away at home on Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Larry Smith and Rev. Jessie Blalock will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Jimmie was a member of the American Legion and The Disabled American Veterans. He joined the Army two weeks after his 17th birthday serving his country for 5 ½ years, 3 years in Germany, over a year in the Vietnam War. After, returning home, he finished his service at Fort Bragg as a drill sergeant. Jimmie was honorably discharged as a staff sergeant E-6 in 1969. After the service he was a truck driver for Hennis Freight Lines, Pike Trucking Company, Barnes Truck Lines, Spartan Express and was a route Salesman with Coble Dairy. Jimmie was the first Juvenile Officer with the Wilson Police Department and later a Detective in Drugs/Narcotics. Before retiring, Jimmie worked at Bridgestone/Firestone as a supervisor in various departments. Jimmie attended Charles L. Coon High School, received his GED in the Army and later obtained his Law Enforcement Certificate from Coastal Plains Academy and attended both Wilson Tech and ECU achieving his Associate Degree in Criminal Justice. Jimmie is survived by his wife, Brenda Elmore Blalock of the home; his son, Shannon Ray Blalock of Lucama; his daughter, Scarlett Blalock Neal and husband, Glenn of Buckhorn; his grandchildren, Addie Neal, Chandler Neal, Coalter Neal and Brad Barnes; his siblings, Linda Parker and husband, Stephen of Salisbury, Gene Blalock of Florida, Alice Bray of Wilson, Bennie Blalock of Wilson, Edith Bryant and William of Battleboro, Lisa Winbourne and husband, Ken of Wilson and his Jack Russell, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jamie Ray and Erma Dell Blalock.
