John Ellsworth “Jack” Jones November 3, 1934 – May 24, 2014

John Ellsworth “Jack” Jones, 79, of Wilson, passed away peacefully in the arms of his wife of 20 years, Tassie C. Jones, on Saturday. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at Winstead United Methodist Church. The Rev. Paul Dunham will officiate.

The family will receive friends Tuesday immediately following the service at the church and other times at the residence.

Jack honorably served his country in the United States Navy from June 3, 1952 until July 5, 1974, a veteran of both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was an IT manager with Durham County from 1980 until 1992. Jack was a faithful member of Winstead United Methodist Church. He was an organ donor in love and respect for his son, Richard Jones, who received a pancreas and kidney transplant on December 1, 2010. Jack was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Surviving are his wife, Tassie Cortazzo Jones; two daughters, Rebecca Adams and husband, Clay, of Raleigh and Jacki Himmell and husband, Bob, of Richmond, VA; two sons, Richard Jones of Louisville, KY and Randy Jones and wife, Louise, of Durham; seventeen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two step-sons, Martin Wayne Thorne and wife, Anne, of Salisbury and Thomas Nicholas Thorne and fiancée, Dana Hopkins, of Durham; and three sisters, Mary Anna Price of Robinson, Illinois, Juanita Pearl Lewis of Oblong, Illinois, and Nina Stephenson Monk of Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Vernon Jones, Sr. and Fannie Hazel Hardin Jones, a sister, Naomi Hardin Deaver, and a brother, James Vernon Jones, Jr.
