Johnnie Samuel Poole

July 24, 1950 – January 12, 2022

I could write for days, but nothing could effectively convey what an amazing soul my dad was, or how much he will be missed by everyone who knew him. Johnnie Samuel “Sammy” Poole died January 12, 2022, wrapped in the loving embrace of his son, after a very long, brutal battle with colorectal cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Carroll Poole, and Mary Ruth Rogers Poole; his wife, Janet Yvonne Poole; nephews, Marty Poole and Chris Poole, and many, many aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Sammy is survived by his daughter, Allison El-Gamal and husband, Sammy and their, children, Hannah Marie, Farrah, Yaseen, and Dallia of Westport, Connecticut, and his son, John Anderson “Andy” Poole and wife, Tabitha, and their sons, Frankie and Cole Getty, of Clermont, Florida; stepson, Brentley Cobb and wife, Jody, and their children Tag, Story, and Atlas, of Durham, North Carolina, and stepson, Derek Cobb, of Greensboro, North Carolina; brother, Marvin Poole and wife, Trish and their children, Renee Johnson, and Kenny Poole, of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina; brother, Gary Poole, and his daughter, Amanda Poole, of Sharpsburg, North Carolina, and his sister, Judy Wood and husband, Jim, and their sons Roger and Jimmy Wood, of Wendell, North Carolina.

There will be a Celebration of Life later this year, and in lieu of flowers, we ask you to perform an act of kindness. Donate to an animal shelter, or food pantry, or children’s cancer center. Or you could even donate blood. My dad donated blood every chance he could because he was a universal donor, and it was the only blood that could be given to newborns. Try to be tolerant of others, even though you might disagree with them. See the silver lining in every person or keep it to yourself. And please, if you are over the age of forty, schedule your colonoscopy.
