Johnny Rogers Stancil
March 10, 1947 – April 25, 2018
Johnny Rogers Stancil, 71, of Wilson died Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at Wake Medical Center after a long battle with cancer. He was a lifelong resident of Johnston County, where he was born and raised. Johnny was born March 10, 1947, son of the late Robie Stancil and Lessie Narron. In addition to his parents Johnny was preceded in death by his older brother, Ralph Stancil.
Johnny was a graduate of Glendale High School and a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving from 1967 to 1968. Most will remember him, working at Walmart of Wilson where he worked until his retirement. Johnny was known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. He had a way of making people smile even during trying days while he was sick. He loved his family and appreciated everyone who took the time to help him.
Survivors include his sisters, Shelby Boykin of Wilson, and Barbara Moreland and husband, Ed of Harwood, Maryland; nieces, Wanda McGhee and husband, Tommy, Michelle Smith and husband, Kevin and Trina Haffelfinger; nephew Terry Haffelfinger and wife, Pam; great-nieces, Ashley Ricker and Tara Haffelfinger, and great nephews, Blair McGhee, Tyler Smith, T.J. and Austin Haffelfinger.
A graveside service will be held in Evergreen cemetery at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 28, 2018 with the Reverend Steve Clayton officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the graveside.
