Jonnie Ray Boswell
Jan. 4, 1952 – April 19, 2021
Jonnie Ray Boswell passed away surrounded by his loving family on Monday. Services will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday evening at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
Jonnie was born to the late David and Elly Boswell while his father was stationed at the Stuttgart Army Base. He was a dual citizen of Germany and the USA. After 30 years of selfless service to the community, Jonnie retired in 2005 as a Captain with the Wilson Police Department. He was a member of the Wilson Shriners; and will be remembered as a “brawny man with a commanding presence with an absolute heart of gold.” During his law enforcement career Jonnie mentored and served as a role model for many officers. He had a way of correcting mistakes without making anyone feel incompetent during training.
Jonnie was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, mentor, friend and community supporter. He loved to play golf, spend time with his family, and fish in as many bass tournaments as he could.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gail Boswell, his “sweetheart” of the home; sons, Brian Boswell and wife, Jayme, and Steven Boswell and wife, Danielle, all of Wilson; six grandchildren, Jordan, Brittany, Kaitlin, Tyler, Tyson and Paisley Boswell, and his special four-legged companion, Luke.
Flowers are welcome or memorials can be made to National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund. nleomf.org
