Joseph Bliss Dugan, 93 of Wilson passed away Saturday, May 7, 2022. Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash Street N, Wilson. Inurnment will follow at 2 p.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 – 7 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Joe was born in Plattsburgh, New York on May 11, 1928, the son of Thomas Joseph and Margorie Bliss Dugan. He was a graduate of Ithaca College in New York. He taught Social Studies and coached baseball and football at Lake Placid High School in New York. He was an Army WWII veteran. Joe served with the Military police in Alaska.
Joe loved playing golf, hunting, and fishing but most of all he loved telling stories and was frequently being mistaken for Santa Claus. His greatest love was his family, especially time spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They loved their “Poppie”. He was a kind, loving, and giving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Joe is survived by his wife, Nancy; son, Jamie and wife, Terri; grandchildren, Matthew and wife, Rachel, Benjamin, Lauren, and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Landon, Sawyer, and Maggie Mae Dugan.
Joe was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth “Betty” Dugan; sister, Joan Dubay, and his brother, James “Jim” Dugan.
