Joseph Boley Martin, Jr.
August 25, 1934 – January 7, 2016
Joseph Boley Martin, Jr. (Jay), of Wilson County passed away on January 7, 2016 after a period of declining health. Jay was a 1956 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill who also served his country honorably as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Marine Corp. He was an exceptional businessman who parlayed his business success in the insurance industry into thirty plus wonderful years as a farmer in Franklin and Wilson counties. Jay believed wholeheartedly in a five step plan which guided his life – work hard, discipline yourself, be honest, be persistent and be determined. “Practice these traits, you will succeed.”
Jay is survived by his wife of forty-two years, Marcia Separk Martin; his two daughters, Terri Kennerly (Steve) and Elaine Lee (Richard), and his son, Joseph Boley Martin, III (Amy). He was loved and known as Daddio to his fourteen grandchildren. He is also survived by his niece, Jennifer Cook (Dan) of Deep Gap, and their three children.
Jay was preceded in death by his parents, Boley and Lois Martin of Mayodan, and his sister, Joy Martin of Montvale, Virginia.
A memorial service is planned for Sunday, January 10, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at Montlawn Memorial Park, 2911 S Wilmington Street, Raleigh.
