Julian David “J.D.” Matthews, Jr., 69, of Wilson passed away Sunday.  A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.  Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.  The Rev. Steve Stephenson and the Rev. Ronnie Clemmons will officiate. The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 5142 Hwy 58 N, Wilson, and other times at the home. David was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him.  He will be thought of often and greatly missed.  He was a Veteran of U.S. Navy for four years.  David taught graphic arts at Hunt High School for twelve years and was in charge of all print media for the Wilson County Schools.  David was a member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church.  He was an avid coin collector, baseball player and sports enthusiast, his favorite teams being the UNC Tarheels and the Boston Red Sox. David is survived by his wife, Sheila Matthews of the home; his daughter, April Guidetti and husband, Richard of La Habra, CA; his son, Jason Matthews and fiancee, Christie Hendricks of Wilson; his grandsons, Alex Matthews and Collin Matthews both of Wilson; his sisters,  Barbara Ferrell and husband, Deland of Lucama and Louise Eatman and husband, James of Wilson; his brother, Ted Matthews and wife, Nancy of Wilson; a number of nieces and nephews; and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Alfred Rignoli and Lillian Rignoli of Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Julian David and Ethelyne Matthews. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, c/o Mrs. C.A.
