Kathy Sharpe Barnes

Kathy Sharpe Barnes, age 74, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 2, at home surrounded by family.  Born in Wilson County on July 24, 1949, she was the daughter of the late William Moses Sharpe and Hazel Moore Sharpe.

Kathy was an unconditionally loving wife, mother, grandmother (Gigi), sister, aunt, and friend.  She always provided words of affirmation with thoughts and prayers of love and encouragement.  Kathy was an active member of Bible Missionary Baptist Church.  She maintained many lifelong friendships, giving a smile to brighten someone’s day or a listening ear to those who needed to talk.  Kathy retired from the Department of Social Services after serving the people of eastern North Carolina for many years.  She loved the beach, trips with her church family, good music, Christmas, and any type of family gathering.  Kathy will be greatly missed, but her family has a “peace beyond understanding” that she is in the arms of Jesus- praising, singing, and worshiping our Savior!

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Bible Missionary Baptist Church, 2833 Tilghman Road, Wilson, with the funeral immediately following.  Burial will be at Evergreen Memorial Park following the services.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Reverend David Barnes; sons, Dave Barnes and wife, Laura of Kenly and Tim Barnes and wife, Lori of Greenville; grandchildren, Michael Barnes and wife, Lilly, Garrett Barnes, Kate Barnes, Tyler Barnes, and Zander Barnes; brother, Bill Sharpe and wife, Annette; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and close friends.
