Kristen Lynn Owens, 21, of Elm City passed away Thursday.  Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Elm City.  The Rev. Todd Green will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home. Kristen was a graduate of Fike High School and attended Appalachian State University where she was on the Rugby team.  She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Kristen is survived by her parents, James Ray Owens, Jr. and Rebecca Summerlin Owens of Elm City; her brothers, Daniel Owens and Caleb Owens both of Elm City; her maternal grandfather, Willie Summerlin of Wilson; her paternal grandparents, James and Shirley Owens of Wilson; her aunts, Sheila Owens of Wilson, Kathy Eaton and husband, Chuck of Wilson, Ann Greene and husband, Wayne of Elm City and Brenda Dew and husband, Stanley of Bailey; her uncles, Donnie Summerlin of Spring Hope, Steve Summerlin of Elm City and Will Summerlin of Raleigh; many cousins who loved, laughed, and cherished precious memories together with Kristen; and her loving and guarding pets, Kaiser, Layla and Marley. She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ruth Matthews Summerlin. Memorials to defray Kristen’s medical expenses may be directed to P.O. Box 1665, Elm City, NC  27822.
