Lannis Barnes Watson December 23, 1923 – June 10, 2019 Lannis Barnes Watson, 95 of Wilson passed away Monday.  His funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.  Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, Wilson. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson. Lannis was very proud to have served his country in the United States Army, being honorably discharged, and enjoyed sharing stories about his time in Europe during World War II. After the war, he returned home and began work with Sealtest Dairies in Wilson as an accountant, later working as small business accountant. He was a faithful member of the American Legion and for many years served the legion as chaplain. He taught Sunday School and participated in other ministries of the church and was above all a faithful follower of Christ. In later life, he enjoyed singing with the Wilson Choral and traveled with the choral to perform at the White House, Biltmore, Washington National Cathedral, Duke Chapel, and other venues. Lannis is survived by his loving wife of twenty years, Myrtle Mooring Watson of the home; daughter, Elsie Lee W. Gerdon and husband, Pete of Centreville, Maryland; sons, Albert Watson and wife, Barbara of New Bern and Joel Watson and wife, Audrey of Wilson. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Mark Watson.
