Layla Leann Overby

Layla Leann Overby April 5, 2001 – March 16, 2019 Layla Leann Overby, 17 of Wilson passed away Saturday. Her funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, with the family receiving friends immediately following the service. Layla was a senior at Hunt High School where she was an honor student, in chorus and on the tennis team.  She played several musical instruments, loved to sing, dance and act and participated in Act for Youth and Playhouse of Wilson. She loved traveling, camping and enjoyed hanging out with her friends and her cousins.  Layla was a very outgoing and loved people.  Layla also worked at Marty’s Barbeque in Wilson. Layla was accepted to Appalachian State, Barton College and Nash Community College. Layla is survived by her mother Tasha Williams and step-father, Michael of Wilson; father, Jamie Overby of Bunn; step-sister, McKalyn Williams; maternal grandparents, Steve and Elaine Hawley of Lincolnton; great-grandmother, Myrtice Coley of Lincolnton; step-grandmother, Jean Williams of Smithfield; aunts and uncles, Cindy Williams and husband, Stanley, Cindy Stieferman and husband, Johnny, Denise Holland, Jackie Dunn and husband, Claude, Sue Cox, Allen Williams and wife, Karen and Lynn Overby; her cousins, Nick and Sam Williams, Blake Amerson and wife, Heather, Corey Holland, Brandon Gibbs and Nate Dunn, Greg, Doug and Helen Weller, Joe and Skyler Williams and Jessica, Clint and Anthony Overby and several great aunts, uncles and other family members.
