Lee Roy McGuire June 12, 1917 – April 22, 2018 Lee Roy McGuire, 100, of Wilson passed away Sunday, April 22, 2018. His funeral services will be conducted at 6 p.m. Friday, April 27, 2018 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 1815 Airport Boulevard, Wilson. The Rev. Mike Bennette will officiate. A 3 p.m. service will be held Saturday, April 28 at Austin Barnes Funeral Home, 194 Queen Street, Boone prior to interment in Mt. Lawn Memorial Park, 521 Old East King Street, Boone with Military honors. The family will receive friends Friday evening at 5:30 p.m. at Tabernacle Baptist Church, Wilson. Lee was the last surviving of fourteen children of William and Lou Wright McGuire. He served his country with honor and pride during WWII, serving in the Asian Theatre and the occupational force in Germany following the war. After retirement from the Air Force, he continued to serve his country through a second career at the Library of Congress, retiring as a Lieutenant in the police force. Lee is survived by his daughter, Sylvia McGuire Tucker of the home; sons, Richard McGuire of Elm City, Leonard McGuire of Palm Springs, California, and David McGuire and wife, Susan of Annandale, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his wife of fifty-two years, Annie Louiza McGuire. Condolences may be directed to Joyner’s Funeral Home at www.joyners.net.
