Lela Ballard Shealy
February 23, 1929 – February 27, 2019
Lela Ballard Shealy, 90, of Wilson passed away Wednesday. A graveside service will be conducted at 11a.m. Saturday In Maplewood Cemetery, 400 College Street, Wilson.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6 – 8 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Lela was a dare-devil, she was a pilot and the first female in Wilson County to fly solo and she was also a motorcyclist.
Lela is survived by her daughter, Nancy Mockridge and husband, Cris of Black Creek; son, Roy Shealy, Jr. and wife, Martha of Snow Hill; granddaughter, Jennifer Byrns and husband, Jeffrey of Chapel Hill; grandson, Frank Shealy of Snow Hill; great grandson, Theodore Byrns; niece, Charlotte W. Eatmon of Wilson; nephew, L.G. Ballard, III of Elm City and her beloved dog, Gabby.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Ardell Shealy, Sr.
