Lula Ethelyn Winstead Joyner
June 7, 1926 – July 14, 2019
Lula Ethelyn Joyner, 93 of Wilson passed away Sunday. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road, Wilson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson. The Rev. Dr. Rusty Russell will officiate.
The family will receive friends prior to the service from 9 – 9:45 a.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson.
Lula was a member of Peace Church, where she sang in the choir and was a Sunday school teacher for thirty-five years. She loved to fish, cook, garden and spent many hours painting. She loved to spoil her family as well. Lula was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
Lula is survived by her children, Phoebe Joyner Hayes and husband, Tommy, Melvin Joyner and wife, Susie, and Lou Anne Joyner Taber and husband, Don; grandchildren, Liza Woods, Bailee Hayes, Becky Joyner Mullis and husband, Ben, Melissa Joyner Newton and husband, Brad, Ches Joyner and wife, Anne, Christy McGovern and husband, Jay, and Emily Lucas and husband, Adam; great-grandchildren, Benjamin and David Mullis, Brady and Brody Newton, “Camp” Joyner; her sister, Rebecca Winstead Hockett and many nieces, nephews and loved ones.
She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty-eight years, Odis Joyner; parents, Phoebe Langley Winstead and John Napoleon Winstead and her siblings, Earl Winstead, Vernon Winstead, David Winstead, Billy Winstead, Ruth Winstead Joyner, Georgia Winstead Hutchins and Alice Winstead Britt.
