Major Robert Arnold Carlson, USMC (Ret)
September 4, 1937 – December 17, 2019
Robert “Bob” Arnold Carlson, USMC retired, 82 of Wilson, NC passed away Tuesday. Robert’s mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday, December 23, 2019 at 10 a.m. at St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash Street NE, Wilson, NC. Father Paul Brant will officiate. A reception will be held at Carmelite House after the Mass for friends and family. Inurnment will be held in Arlington Cemetery, Washington, DC.
The family will receive friends Sunday afternoon from 4 – 6 p.m. at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson, NC.
Bob served his country with honor and pride with the US Marine Corps. His bond with his brothers in arms transcended generation, age, and conflict. Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He was dearly loved and will be thought of often with memories that will warm the heart. Bob was a member of the American Legion, life member of the NRA, member of the Knights of Columbus, and a member of the Marine Corps Association.
Bob is survived by his wife, Carole Carlson of the home; sons, Robert Lee Carlson and wife, Claudia and Eric Carlson and wife, Sharon; grandchildren, William Carlson, Madeline Carlson, Clara Carlson, Raphael Carlson, Jack Carlson and Declan Carlson; numerous nieces and nephews and family friends, especially David and Anne Bach and Nick Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustave Robert and Martha Laurin Carlson; and his sisters, Nancy Corey and Vera Hall.
