Mallie Christopher “Chris” Raper, 78, of Elm City passed away Friday, August 30, 2024. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 6, 2024, at Arlington Baptist Church, 1500 Bethlehem Road, Rocky Mount. Interment will follow with Military Honors in Evergreen Memorial Park, 2800 Nash Street, Wilson. Rev. Mike Stamper will officiate.
The family will receive friends Friday afternoon from 12 – 1:30 p.m. at Arlington Baptist Church, Rocky Mount.
Chris retired from the Wilson Police Department after thirty-three years of service and became a US Marshall for eleven years. Chris served his country with honor and pride with the US Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He was a member of Arlington Baptist Church and was a faithful servant. Chris played traditional bluegrass music with the Silver Lake Bluegrass Jammers and the ukulele with the Wilson Ukulele Band. He was a concealed handgun instructor and a licensed ham radio operator. He was a wonderful man, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him, and he will be greatly missed.
Chris is survived by his loving wife of twenty-three years, Dianne Rich Raper; son, Christopher Brown Raper and wife, Meredith of Salemburg; grandson, Tyler Quinn Raper and wife, Stephanie; great-grandson, Jace Michael Raper; step-son, Chadwick Scott Proctor and spouse, Isai, and his brother, Rex Raper and wife, Vickie.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Quinn Raper in 2013, and his parents, Mallie and Dora Raper.
