Marie Williams Harris

Marie Williams Harris September 2, 1929 - August 3, 2018. Marie was born in Wilson, September 2, 1929, grew up in Wilson and Nash Counties, and lived her entire adult life with her family in the Nash County community of Mount Pleasant. She is survived by two children; Connie Harris Stein and husband, Allen and Walter M. “Boots” Harris and wife, Margaret; three grandchildren, Marty Harris, Stephen Troy Harris, and Daniel Harris, and her sister, Joyce Rhodes. She was a loving, proud, and hardworking wife to a loving, proud, and hardworking farmer, Walter M. Harris, who died in 1965. She was preceded in death by her sons, Jerry Williams Harris and James Donald Harris, and a grandson, Christopher Todd Harris. Marie was a devoted mother who put her children before herself and gave them constant love and support all her life. Marie also gave of herself generously in her work as a Patient Representative at Wilson Memorial Hospital until she retired in 1987. She then worked part-time for several years at Belk’s Department Store in Wilson. The many co-workers and clients she met through her work loved her for her kindness. She valued too many extended family members and friends to name. But they and the memories she shared with them were treasures to her always. Two of her great joys for the last several years were her beloved cat and dog whom she so often referred to with an adoring chuckle as her “children.” Marie Harris was a kind and gentle lady. Her loving presence will remain with us forever. The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to Dr. William Dunlap her longtime physician and to the staff at The Oaks of Mayview and Transitions LifeCare for the genuinely warm and compassionate care they gave Marie and for the constant support they gave those who loved her. A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Bailey Town Cemetery, Bailey. The family will receive friends following the service in the cemetery. The Rev. Carlos Castano will officiate.
