Marilyn Taylor Osborn August 30, 1929 – September 6, 2014

Marilyn Taylor Osborn passed away at home Saturday, September 6th, at the age of 85, surrounded by her family.

Marilyn was born August 30, 1929, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Chester James Taylor and Marie Sullivan Taylor. She graduated from Shortridge High School, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Indiana University, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority.

In December 1951, she married George Preston Osborn. After he graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law, they returned to his hometown of Marion, Indiana, where they raised a family of five. Marilyn remained involved with her sorority, was a “pink lady” volunteer at Marion General Hospital, participated in the Research Club, and was active in bridge clubs and the Meshingomeshia Women’s Tennis and Golf associations. She scored a hole in one at the Meshingomeshia Country Club in 1990.

Marilyn and George moved to Wilson, North Carolina in 2005 to be near their daughter Preston, son-in-law, Peter von Arx, and granddaughters, Gaby and Jesse. Marilyn was lovingly known as “Mimi” by her grandchildren. In Wilson, she also was known and loved by Gaby’s and Jesse’s friends as “Mimi.” In Wilson, she played golf and bridge and was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church. Most of all, “Mimi” loved being a mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She also loved tennis, golf, bridge, gardening, entertaining, traveling, and cooking. Her Catholic faith was very important to her.

Her beloved husband, George, died in 2008. She is survived by her five children: Cathleen M. Osborn of Denver, Colorado, Kimberly R. Grant (Gerald) of Phoenix, Arizona, G. Arthur Osborn (Prue) of Unionville, Pennsylvania, Mark Taylor Osborn (Madelyn) of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and Preston Osborn von Arx (Peter) of Wilson, North Carolina.

“Mimi” is also survived by thirteen loving, wonderful grandchildren: Alexandra Zisser of Detroit, Michigan, Sam Zisser of Madison, Wisconsin, Lauren Grant of Seattle, Washington, Megan Hemmasi of Houston, Texas, Mark Grant of Chicago, Illinois, Eliza Osborn of New York, New York, William Osborn of London, England, Annie Osborn of Unionville, Pennsylvania, Allison Daniel of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, Lesley Osborn of Columbia, South Carolina, Barritt Osborn of Athens, Georgia, and Gaby and Jesse von Arx of Wilson, North Carolina; and one great-grandchild, “Joey” Daniel of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina.

The Osborn family would like to thank ComForcare Senior Services caregivers Nikki, Theo, April, Erika and Daphine, and Dr. Brewer and Dr. Pugh, along with their wonderful staff, for the care given their mother.

Memorials may be directed to Community Home Care and Hospice, 1604 Forest Hills Road, Wilson, NC 27893, St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash St., W, Wilson, NC 27893, of the charity of one’s choice.
