Mary Magdalene Casey Amerson

August 14, 1935 – September 30, 2014

Mary Magdalene went to be with Jesus Tuesday morning when her heart of gold finally stopped since a heart attack in 1999.  A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in the Amerson Cemetery, Forest Hills Road, Wilson.  The Rev. Tommy Hagan will officiate. The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home. Mary loved her family and friends and she enjoyed making them laugh.  She knew hard work and hard times but it never got her down.  Mary never met a stranger and had a kind and loving word for everyone.   She was retired from Sampson’s Manufacturing and later she would sit with the elderly and sick at their homes or nursing homes. Mary is survived by her daughter, Becky Baker and husband, Danny of Elm City; her son, Michael Amerson of Wilson, who has lost a true friend; her granddaughters, Christy Combs, who cared for her in her last days, Hope Mansfield and husband, Jeremy, Melissa Holland; her grandsons, Scott Combs and Rodney Amerson; her great-grandchildren, Chris, Karen, Rachel and Alana and her sister, Clyde Webb of Ayden. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry “Mike” Amerson; her son, John “Johnny” Amerson; her parents, Charles Aycock and Maggie Sasser Casey and her brothers, Reverend James Casey and John Casey. The family would like to thank Dr. Chand and hospice for all their care and support.   Thank you to everyone for your prayers and concern. Flowers are welcome or memorials may be directed to the DLP Wilson Medical Center Hospice, 1705 Tarboro Street S., Wilson, NC  27893. Condolences may be directed to www.joyners.net.
