Mary Magdalene Murray “Maggie” Hinnant, 93, of Buckhorn passed away on July 21, 2014 at the Brian Center Health & Rehabilitation Center of Wilson. She was born in Wilson County to Eliza Jane Boyette and John Henry Murray. She owned and operated the Wilson Beauty Shop on Tarboro Street for many years. After her retirement, Maggie loved working in her garden, making seven-layer chocolate cakes, and quilting. “Miss Maggie” organized the quilting group at Buckhorn United Methodist Church in 1994. This group contributed many quilts for the church’s annual harvest sale. Her connection with the church was long-standing and was an important part of her life. Maggie was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-one years, Charles Hinnant; her parents, and her seven sisters and brothers. She is survived by her daughter, Anne H. Jones and husband, Winfred Lee, Jr. of Columbus, GA; her two sons, Charles Donnie Hinnant and wife, Carolyn L. of Garner, and Charlie O’Connor Hinnant and wife, Priscilla C. of Nashville; her five grandchildren, Melissa H. Moses of Lake Worth, FL, Charles Christopher Hinnant and wife, Lynne of Tallahassee, FL, Winfred Lee Jones, III of Atlanta, GA, Suzanne J. Hughston and husband, Jack of Columbus, GA and Nichole Elizabeth Hinnant of Kenly; her six great-grandchildren, Tyler, Olivia and Victoria Moses of Lake Worth, FL and Sarah, Jack and Lee Hughston of Columbus, GA and many other beloved extended family members. The family would like to extend their gratitude to her sitters and all her caregivers including her doctors, the staff at the Brian Center of Wilson, the staff of Spring Arbor of Wilson, the family and friends who cared for and supported her, and to all who visited and prayed for her during her extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday at Buckhorn United Methodist Church, 8102 Hwy 42 W, Kenly. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Dave Ammons will officiate. The family will receive friends 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
