Mary Janet Gaboury Rutland June 15, 1924 – August 7, 2014

Janet Rutland, 90, of Wilson, NC, formerly of Blacksburg, VA and Boulder, CO, died Thursday, August 7, 2014, in Wilson.

Janet loved traveling. She and her late husband, Lee, traveled extensively around the world. She loved gourmet cooking and never met a cookbook she would not collect or a recipe she would not try. Janet was an avid reader, amassing an enormous amount of knowledge with uncanny recall. She loved bird watching and much of her traveling was in that pursuit. Janet was an inspiration to her family and to all who knew her. She will be deeply missed.

Janet’s legacy lives on through her family who will miss her dearly: two daughters, Basia Irland of Albuquerque, NM, and Lynne Gallimore and husband, Jay, of Wilson; a granddaughter, Britney Gallimore Zaytoun and husband, George, of New Bern; two grandsons, Hunter Gallimore and wife, Angelia, of Wilmington, and Derek Irland of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; six great-grandchildren, Meghan, Hayden, Logan, and Jordan Gallimore, and Georgie and Caroline Zaytoun. Wilson became her new home late in life where she was blessed to have many friends and caregivers who loved her and whom she loved and appreciated.

A private service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, you are encouraged to direct memorials in Janet’s memory to each of your favorite and special charities.
