Maylon Arthur Kirby, Sr.
December 20, 1933 – March 1, 2020
Maylon Arthur Kirby, Sr., 86, passed away Sunday. His funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s FWB Church. Interment will follow in the Kirby Family Cemetery with military honors. The Rev. David Kreiger and Rev. Donnie Massey will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Maylon serviced his country with honor and pride in the United States Navy. He was a life-long member of St. Mary’s FWB Church, serving as a treasurer for 50 years. He retired from Kraft Dairy Group, Inc. after 40 years of service. He was a Little League baseball coach with the Kenly Recreation League and a high school basketball referee.
Maylon is survived by his wife, Dorothy Pate Kirby of the home; son, Maylon Arthur “Art” Kirby, Jr. and wife, Charity of New Bern; daughter, Myra K. Kennedy and husband, David of Wilson; granddaughters, Victoria Pate Kirby of Rock Hill, South Carolina, and Madison Overbey of New Bern; grandsons, Maylon Arthur “Trey” Kirby, III of Zebulon, Fredrick Tyler Kirby of Charlotte, Stephen Bryon Overbey of New Bern, Jason Kennedy and Matthew Kennedy; 2 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Augustine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion Henry and Gencie Uthoma Mitchell Kirby.
