Melba Jean Reason Cooke
May 7, 1923 – October 31, 2016
Melba Jean Reason Cooke, 93, of Lucama passed away Monday. Her funeral service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, Wilson. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Eureka Town Cemetery. The Rev. De Wayne Eakes will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home of her daughter, Peggy Skinner.
Melba was dearly loved and very important to her family and friends, she will be thought of often and greatly missed. She truly had a green thumb (she could grow grass in cement) and she loved to work in her yard, where her imagination bloomed. Melba loved her friends at the Lucama Senior Center.
Melba is survived by her daughter, Peggy Cooke Skinner and husband, Buddy of Lucama; her sons, Clifton Thomas “Bo” Cooke, Jr., and wife, Dene of Lucama, and Eddie Cooke and wife, Libby of Wilson; her granddaughters, Dana Skinner Turner and husband, Chad of Lucama, and Jessica Cooke of Bailey; her grandsons, Marty Skinner and wife, Jennifer of Kenly, Brian Cooke of Lucama, and Matt Cooke and wife, Krista of Rock Ridge; great-grandchildren, Caroline, Cassie, Dominic, Gabriel, and Khloe, and her sister, Carol Ford of Goose Creek, South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton Thomas Cooke, Sr.; sisters, Mary Sutton and Belle Reason, and her brothers, Preston Reason, John A. Reason, and Clifton Reason.
The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the staff at Wilson Pines for their support and care, they especially would like to thank her caregiver, Linda for her patience, loving touch and her friendship.
