Mildred Barnes Boswell

Mildred Barnes Boswell “Grammy”, 84, of Wilson passed away Saturday, July 16, 2016. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2016 at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Charles Robl will officiate.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home of Steve and Betsy Whitt.
Mildred graduated from Wilson School of Nursing and began her nursing career at Woodard Herring Hospital and later worked at Wilson Memorial Hospital and Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. Mildred was a compassionate caregiver in many different aspects of nursing throughout her career of more than fifty years. After her retirement from nursing, she and her late husband, Tom served as a volunteer for many years with Meals on Wheels of Wilson. They truly enjoyed serving others.
Mildred enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren by attending their many and varied athletic and cultural activities. She loved reading, cooking, sewing, and following all different sports. She was a true Southern Lady and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her five children; daughters, Anne Boswell Burgess and husband, Buddy of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Betsy Boswell Whitt and husband, Steve of Wilson, and Susan Boswell Batts and husband, Roger of Wendell; her sons, William Spencer Boswell and wife, Wini of Clayton, and Thomas Pope Boswell of Wilson; her grandchildren, Matthew Burgess and wife, Kimber of Alpharetta, Georgia, Susanne Burgess Acosta and husband, Carlos of Mechanicsville, Virginia, Denise Whitt Leerkes and husband, Thomas of Garner, Jennifer Beichner and husband, Andy of Sims, Stephanie Whitt Locklear and husband, Jonathan of Brownstown, Michigan, Stuart Jones and wife, Morgan of Garner, Spencer Whitt of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Mary Whitt and fiancé, Matthew Larson of Raleigh, Tommy Batts and wife, Beka of Gainesville, Florida, Christopher Batts of Wendell, Emma, William, and Olivia Boswell of Clayton, and Meghan and Rachel Boswell of Wilson; her great grandchildren, Teagan and Bennett Burgess, Santi, Gideon, and Lilliana Acosta, Olivia Leerkes, Rickey Locklear, and Erika Ray; her sister, Chris Eargle and husband, Con of Columbia, South Carolina, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Mildred is preceded in death by her husband,Tom; her parents Willie and Geneva Barnes; her brothers, Bill, Durwood, Tim, Carl, and Billy Barnes, and her sister, Emma Lee Riley.
